There are still so many people who don’t use their own favicon or don’t even know what a favicon is.

If this is you, don’t worry we’ll fix that real soon. :)

First of all, favicons are part of your branding and I believe everyone should have a custom favicon on their site.

If you don’t have one, it’s very obvious and I don’t know… to me, it feels somehow off.

So for those who don’t know what a favicon is, it’s that little logo icon next to your name in the browser tab. Here’s mine to show you what I mean:

That little ‘M’ in the purple circle is my favicon.

And if you don’t add one for yourself there, it looks very generic.

So for example, all sites created with Squarespace look like this without a custom favicon:

See that grey cube? All sites built with Squarespace are automatically given that favicon. The problem with that is that everyone ends up having the same icon. Boring.

Luckily though it’s super easy to change it up, so not to worry, you’re in good hands.

To start with you’ll need to create a favicon that suits your brand. This can be really simple, like mine. So don’t fret too much about it. And if you’re really not comfortable creating any kind of designs, you can always use a site like Creative Market to simply buy a pre-designed favicon.

As a side note, if you choose to work with me, I include a favicon in all my custom web designs.

Once you have your favicon created and ready to go, there are just a few simple steps you need to follow in order to add it to your site.

After you log in to the back end of your Squarespace website, you’ll need to click on Design > Logo & Title.

Then scroll down until you see BROWSER ICON (FAVICON).

Keep in mind that the recommended size for a favicon is 32x32 pixels PNG file on a transparent background.

Once you’ve uploaded your image, just click on Save and you are all done!

I hope you agree that these few simple steps are super helpful in creating an even more cohesive brand online. Every little touch like this makes your business look more professional, so why not go the extra step?
