The Squarespace announcement bar is one of the best features on the platform. It can be used for just about anything and lets you bring attention to a specific item of your choice.

If you haven’t used the announcement bar in Squarespace yet, I highly recommend it. Maybe you’re not sure how to use it yet or never really knew what to use it for. In that case, this post is for you.

Read on for tips and ideas of what you can use it for as well as instructions on how to customize it.

If you’re not sure what I’m even talking about here, let me explain where this feature exists.

When you log in to your Squarespace account, you’ll need to navigate to the Marketing tab in the menu on the left, and then click on the Announcement Bar.

Now you’ll see an area on the left where you can enter and customize the text for your announcement bar. See my example below.

Enter a short announcement for whatever you want to get more eyes on. Then make sure to link it to the page with more info about what you’re advertising so that when people click on the bar, they’ll be taken directly to that page.

You’ll just need to scroll down on the left and paste in a link in the URL section.

Best uses for the Squarespace announcement bar

I personally like to tick off the “Open in a new window” for this one, but it’s up to you if you want to do the same.

That’s it, it’s that easy! You’re welcome to change it up as you see fit on a regular basis or keep it the same for a while.

Now if you’re not sure what to use this announcement bar for, here are a few suggestions for best uses of it to get you started.

  1. Newsletter sign-up. Either offer a free opt-in or a discount code of some sort in here to entice people to sign up for your email list.

  2. New product launch. Invite visitors to check out your sales page to a brand new product or service.

  3. New blog post. Simply direct viewers to the latest blog post that you’ve published.

  4. An upcoming event you might be hosting.

  5. A special time-sensitive offer for a product or service.

I hope these ideas inspired you to start using the announcement bar on your website if you haven’t already. And if you’ve got other ideas, share them below.
