In my recent eBook I wrote all about the process of discovering your passions and creating a business you love. I shared all my steps to figuring out what the right business is for you and how to find profitable business ideas. I also talked about my own journey into the entrepreneurial world. I made it vividly clear that becoming an entrepreneur was the best thing that I’ve ever done for myself. As I’ve said before, working for myself and becoming the master of my own fate was the best decision for me. But there are many different types of entrepreneurs, and today I want to also share my top reasons to love working from home.
This doesn’t mean that you have to choose a home-based business, but if you’re still contemplating what type of business you would like to start or transition into, I want to share with you why I absolutely love working from home. My hope is that this will help you get closer to making a decision if you’re still stuck with this. So here goes…
1. Total Freedom
This is by far my number one reason to love working from home. The feeling of total freedom! There’s just nothing else like it. When you work from home, you get to completely decide your own hours, you get to create your own ideal working space, and you get to choose when to take breaks. No one is there to boss you around and tell you when to start work (or watch over you with critical eyes whenever you take a minute of “unauthorized” break). If you like to sleep in and feel that you’re the most productive after 10am, so be it. You get to do that. If you thrive in a more beautiful environment instead of staring at boring office walls, you get to decorate your home office anyway you like. Not only that, but if you get tired of sitting at home and crave a change of scenery, you can do many projects from other places. Like today, for example, I am writing this post at my favourite café. Another plus? You get to have your lunch break when you’re actually hungry, not when it’s scheduled for you.
2. Saving Time & Money
One of the biggest time and money savers when working from home is cutting out the commute. I commuted to work for many years before I became my own boss and I never enjoyed it. The time it took me to get to work every morning and afternoon always felt like such a waste of time. I always felt like it was taking away from my precious time that I could’ve spent doing things I actually enjoyed. It was never comfortable either. The choice was ether being stuck in a ton of traffic driving during rush hour or being stuck on an over packed bus or train. Not to mention the cost of those train tickets! And I can’t fail to mention that working from home is so much more eco-friendly. Buy not driving so much, you contribute to a less polluted environment.
3. More “Me Time”
So when you save all that time from cutting out your commute, the most wonderful thing is that you get more time for yourself, so you can do the things you enjoy doing. Those precious hours that you normally would’ve spent in traffic or on a packed bus or train, you now get to use any way you like by working from home. So if you always say you don’t have enough time to take care of yourself and exercise, for example, that extra time would allow you to do that. Or you could simply use that time to pamper yourself, read more books, engage in hobbies or whatever else your little heart desires.
4. Be There for Your Family
Another great reason to work from home is that you get to be there for your family, which is especially wonderful if you have small children and you wish to stay home with them instead of sending them off to expensive daycare. Or you can simply spend more quality time with your spouse and do the things you both love. Working from home also works well for people who have pets, which are like family to most people anyway (as they should be). My dog is definitely part of the family for me and being able to walk her whenever she needs to go out is super convenient. Double bonus; taking breaks for walks and getting regular fresh air helps you be more productive throughout the day.
5. Less Stress
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, working from home is a lot less stressful. This is really due to all the reason above. All of the points I mentioned above help you be more relaxed and ensure peace of mind. When you have total freedom and don’t have to fret about having a boss to answer to, when you save money and get to take more time to take care of your inner needs, and when you get to be with those you love more, you will inevitably feel a lot less stressed out. As we all know, stress is the number one cause of a lot of illnesses. It’s an epidemic and it’s everyone’s enemy. Nothing good ever came from stress. It’s healthier for us to be more relaxed and stress-free. These are definitely ways you can eliminate a lot of stress from your life.
So there you have it, my top reasons why I love working from home.
