HOW TO CHANGE THE FACEBOOK LINK PREVIEW IMAGE FROM YOUR SQUARESPACE WEBSITE

Have you ever noticed that when you share your website link on Facebook, the image that comes up with it is either your logo or some random image? And you’re not even sure how it got there… I’d blame the gremlins (my hubby always blames them for everything 😜).

Well, I’m going to demonstrate how quick and easy it is to fix that. So whenever you share your website link, you can feel better about having a nice image to go with that post. While you’re at it, you should also customize the text that goes with that preview.

Here are the 3 simple steps to make these changes:

STEP 1 – Choose an image you’d like Facebook to preview when you share your web link. Personally, I’ve used a snipping tool to screen capture my home page because that’s what I want to show up. You can choose whatever image you like though.

Next, log in to your Squarespace account and click on “DESIGN” in the left side menu. Then click on “Logo & Title” and scroll all the way to the bottom. You’ll see a box called “SOCIAL SHARING LOGO”. That’s where you need to upload your chosen image and save. See my example here:

STEP 2 – Go back to the main menu in Squarespace and click on “PAGES”. Find your Home page and click on the round gear to open up your page settings. Under page title, enter the text you’d like to appear with your Facebook preview image. This should be a short tagline for your business.

Then, under Description, enter a little blurb giving a bit more details about what your business is about. Bonus points, doing this will also boost your SEO a little more! For example, see what I’ve done for mine:

STEP 3 – As a final step, you’ll need to go to the Facebook Link Debugger Tool (without doing this, nothing will change).

Once you’re there, all you have to do is paste in your website URL where it tells you to and click the blue button that says “Debug”. Your website image will show up at the bottom but it will not show your latest changes until you click on that “Scrape Again” button. You might need to click it a few times until you see your new sharing image below.

That’s it! Now you’re done and ready to share your website link on Facebook.
